Cooking and Eggs free essay sample

The economy in the United States is slowly plummeting, so therefore we tend to lessen our expenses. A productive way to do this is by making more home cooked meals. When I wake up in the morning, I enjoy making myself an omelet. There are many ways in which omelets can be made, but the way I cook them, satisfies my stomach every time. Ever since I was 8 years old, my mother would make omelets that would make my mouth water with just the smell of the eggs being cooked. I would always insist on knowing the recipe so I can cook it myself, so finally she told me, â€Å"follow these steps and you will soon make delicious omelets like me someday. † Before you can cook an omelet, you need all the ingredients. First, make sure you have the proper equipment needed to make this dish. You need a frying pan or a griddle to cook the omelet. Another essential needed is an eggbeater or a fork, either will complete the task. An extra bowl would be useful for the eggs. In order to mix your ingredients in the pan and avoid them from getting stuck, you need a spatula. Next, you need to obtain all the necessary ingredients. If you are just cooking for yourself, 2-3 eggs will be fine depending on your hunger. Then make sure you have milk or water, preferably milk because it gives the dish a better flavor. You also need oil or butter to prevent the eggs from sticking to the pan. Finally, you may pick out the fillings of your desire. What I usually fill my omelet with are the following: shredded cheese, chopped onions, tomatoes, salt, peppers, mushrooms, ham, sausage, and sliced carrots to make it somewhat nutritious. Once you have all the ingredients ready, you can begin cooking. Start by preheating the pan, level four on the selection knob on the stove usually works perfect. If the dial does not have numbers, medium-low will work. While the pan is preheating, crack the eggs by softly tapping one on the edge of the counter. Once the egg is cracked, pull the two selections of the egg apart, dumping the contents into a bowl and throwing away the shells. Repeat this process with the other two eggs. Now would be the perfect time to add salt and pepper to the egg mixture. Next, stir the eggs with an eggbeater or fork, using a circular motion lifting the eggs upward out of the bowl, allowing the mixture to strain through the teeth of the fork. The eggs will be properly mixed when the yellow part of the egg is completely mixed with the white part. By this time the pan should be heated. Add just enough butter or oil to cover the bottom of the pan. Once you see that the butter is melted or that the oil is beginning to show heat bubbles, pour the egg mixture into the pan. Eggs cook quickly, so it is best to select and cut up all your ingredients prior to cooking the eggs. Chopping them into bit size pieces will be perfect so it can fit inside the omelet. Move the pan around so that a fine layer of egg sticks to the side of the pan. This is done by simply picking up the pan and gently rotating it. Adding a splash of milk or water will make the eggs fluffy. Let the eggs cook until there in no liquid left. Now is the time to add shredded cheese. Grab a pinch of the shredded cheese and begin sprinkling it onto the exposed part of the omelet. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the amount of cheese in your omelet. Next, it is time to add the meat of your choice onto the omelet. Add ham, sausage, or bacon onto the top of the omelet. If you are really hungry you can add a portion of all the meats. It is important to make sure you leave about 1-2 inches of space on the left and right side of pan so you can roll the egg. Finally it is time to add the nutritious ingredients. You will add the vegetables the same way you added the shredded cheese. Grab a pinch of your cut up vegetables and gently scatter them around with the meat. Add vegetables until you are satisfied with the amount. Throughout the cooking of the omelet, it is important to pay attention that the eggs are not sticking to the bottom of the pan. A good way to avoid the egg from sticking to the bottom of the pan is by using your spatula and gently going around the edges, which will cause it to separate. Finally, the omelet is complete. All you have to do now is roll the sides of your omelet gently to close in the ingredients. It easier said than done but it is important to be patient because sometimes the egg will tear. If your egg happens to tear don’t worry about it, it won’t come out the way it was suppose to but it is still edible. Once you have rolled your omelet onto you spatula, place it onto a plate. Since it just came out of the stove, let the omelet sit for a while allowing it to cool off. While you wait for your meal to cool off, make sure you turn off the stove and clean up all the mess you left behind. The omelet is now ready to eat, and you just saved yourself some money with this quick, easy, and inexpensive meal. Once you have mastered how to make an omelet, you will soon tryout other home cooked meals, which will result in your wallet staying fat and your stomach staying satisfied.
